Lab Test 1 - The Workspace

And here you go! My final design for the first lab test.

Basically, this test is to... well, test our skill on tracing images and use pathfinder to make some decent graphics. This is THE WORKSPACE.

My Mural Assignment

Ladies and gentlemen,

I present you... (drumroll)

My mural assignment!

Ok, This is technically what my friend Luqman and me have done for the assignment. He did the background and I did the characters.

I actually did some details on the characters, but probably people won't really notice them as the big picture makes them quite small. So, I'm gonna show a big version of one of the characters that I made.

Basically, I just find a nice icon image in the internet and trace it. Then, I add gradient in the circle and put up some highlights.

My design is arranged too 'griddy' I guess if compared to the other group. Their design looks like they have much more freedom. Hmm... I dunno.

Gestalt Yo!

We learnt about Gestalt Principles and this is what I came up with... Basically, it's my face with some arrangement and colors.

Grids OMG!

I've played with Photoshop for about quite a long time and haven't really tried Illustrator. So, when Madam Ling taught me about vector in week 1, it's kinda like a revelation to me, lol.

And here comes another revelation; the grid!

Well, the grid basically gives you guide to do the graphics, and it REALLY helped me define a shape more beautifully.

If I don't use grids, I'll probably make the shield shape like the right one. But, if I use grid, I can make a lot better shield shape like the left one.

This knowledge really helps me improve my graphics ability a lot! I guess there's a lot more to be learnt.

Vector

This week I've learned about vector.

Okay, I've learned about vector before, but on different approach and perspective. In the past, I studied engineering and need to calculate all the vectors to get the value that I need. But in Computer Graphics class, I just need to understand what vector is in the software. Talk about some relief there.

Vector usually used to get a more accurate and non-pixelated graphics. We can compare this in Photoshop and Illustrator. Well basically, if I use illustrator, I can make any shapes and lines become small or large without making them pixelate.

If you don't understand what I'm talking, then let me show you. We are talking about graphics anyway.

Voila! Now you understand, right? [source]
I guess that's all for now. For now, this is a really good progress.
